"Raise your skirts and bob your hair "

Last night Benjamin and I went and saw the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie! Brenna and I have watched the movie of it that was done in the 1960s with Julie Andrews numerous times so I was stoked to go see the live performance! It was sooo good! The entire time I was watching it I was hysterical. I loved it, they did a great job!

I really am such a fashion nerd, part of my mind while watching the play was blazing with the history of the "roaring 20s flapper girl fashion" and thinking of designs I could do that are inspired by that era and the play. Lol, I will post the ones that actually surface in my sketch book.

( I am pretty sure I am going to start wearing make up like that....lol)

As Of Today...

YAY!!!! :D - I passed my biology exam, and not only did I pass I got an 'A'! Not and 'A-', an 'A!' Woo-hoo! However, only the multiple choice part of the test has been graded so far, the application exam should be graded by next week. I am not too stressed though, application exams are my specialty and I feel good about that portion of the test! .....I probably shouldn't speak so soon though....Can one be jinxed through blogging? :(

WOOPS... I really do feel bad...Scratch that really bad! - Alright, I made my first mistake by bringing up the dreaded and almost taboo topic of the BYU/UofU game that took place last night... I was talking with my friend Alyse about it in my class (While I was talking, I noticed the guy in front of me fidget a little, a normal move I supposed for a die-hard fan when a bad game is brought up.) I continued on, and started to vent to my friend about how BYU has not been doing as hot as we usually do in sports this year, while this is true...I may have said it with a little less tact to my friend. It was about this point in time when the guy sitting directly in front of me turned around with a mixed look of hurt and anger in his eyes........ The worst part? I am 90% sure that that guy is a part of the basketball team.... Oh man, what am I going to do with myself? Karma did get me back today though, I lost my favorite MAC lipgloss "oyster girl." It fell out of my pocket:( I don't have money to buy more either for a little while! So I suppose justice was served?

Congratulations Ben!

Yesterday Ben and his band competed in the Battle of the Bands and took third place! Which is really good considering that his band had just recently formed and they entered just for fun. They did amazing! The band that took second was lame, Ben's group should have totally taken it!

These Videos Are...

Interesting! As an artist I am always excited when I stumble upon something really creative. These music videos made me smile so I thought that I would post them. I hope you enjoy them! :)

The first is called "Soon We'll be Found" by Sia. It really gets interesting toward the end I love it!

The second is called "Her Morning Elegance" by Oren Lavie

Possible Career Switch to a Wicca?

(Warning the content in this post may show how much of a nerd I actually am...)

I have just spent the last hour in a section of the library that is often portrayed in movies as the "University Make Out spot." You know that area that is exceptionally rural, where the books are coated with a layer of dust and perfumed with mildew, and the lights are dim? That is where I spent my afternoon researching alternative and herbal medicines for one of my classes.

Despite how tedious that first paragraph sounded, I actually am really enjoying this topic. I have always been fascinated with the lore of plants and herbs. When I was younger I made a point to memorize which plants could be used as lethal poisons. And I love the healing aspect of plants as well. Something I have always found interesting is that many times a plant will contain both medicinal aspects and hazardous ones depending on which part of the plant you are using. In some plants the leaves and flowers are poisonous while the roots are nutritious.

Hmmm...after this research project perhaps I will plant the garden I have always wanted...except instead of just putting "pretty flowers" in it I will fill it with medicinal flowers and plants!

Rumi

"There are lovers content with longing, I'm not one of them." - Rumi (trans Coleman Barks)

Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day!

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King was an incredible man, I feel inclined to publish a post for him seeing as Doc. King is one of my heroes. I almost feel discouraged to post something...how can this measly paragraph truly capture the depth of the impact this man has had on our world? Like Gandhi, he was a man who faced so much darkness and hatred not with violence, but with civil disobedience. He acted as a Bodhisattva and improved the lives of so many. I am truly grateful that he lived, and that he used his time in this life to better our world. He really was a brilliant man!

Cat Drama

My cat Figaro helping me study...or being a pain in the butt!

It happens every time I come home to study. My kitty Figaro follows me wherever I go, then when I sit down to do my homework she plops her big bum right on my papers or books and will not move! Often she will even bat at the edges....

Randomness

Well, it is my second week into BYU, and I can already tell that my classes are going to beat me up ha ha. I am currently reading an article on an evaluation of echinacea angustifolia in experimental rhinovirus infections, and am struggling to stay afloat amongst the sea of scientific terminology. However, the class I am reading the article for isn't too bad, in fact I love science, it is a subject that has always come naturally to me. (I say this with the exception of the vast formulas in chemistry and physics....hate those.....) Strangely enough, I think it is going to be my sewing and figure drawing classes that are going to be the tough ones this semester. Anyway, I have to go study and what not, so later days! (I have become such a nerd!!!)

Let It Snow!

(Image taken from freefoto.com)

I never understood the term "winter wonderland" before I came here, then again I had never seen snow except for what I saw of it in movies until I came here either....and you never know how real that stuff is, ha ha. I now understand why so much magic is associated with snow. It does seem magical the way an ordinary street can be transformed into a place of sparkling white bliss over the time scale of one night.

This morning when I woke up I felt that my house had been relocated during my sleep. It was no longer where it once had been, but had been moved to the center of a snow globe, one that had just been recently shaken. Clumps, not flakes, of snow were falling down and the snow that already lay on the earth came up past my knees! The trees were all veiled in white and arched over the streets as if greeting those passing by this new icy world.

-----
Here are some things to do today if you live in the snow.
1. Obviously go outside make a snowman-snow fort-snow angel...etc.
2. Deck some unsuspecting victim with a snowball. *evil laugh*
3. You could have an icicle sword fight...do this with caution though....
4. Sledding, snowboarding, skiing are all great on days like today!
5. Go ice skating (on a date if you can!), then afterward make or go get hot chocolate! A good recommendation I have is at Starbucks and it is their new White Hot Chocolate with peppermint pieces.
6. Cuddle up in blankets and watch a good movie!

Happy New Year!

I hope that everyone had a great New Year's Eve! And I hope that everyone has a great year as well. Ha ha I wonder how long it will take me to get used to writing "09" at the end of dates instead of "08." I cannot believe how fast 2008 flew by...it is crazy! The year 2008 may have started off a bit bumpy for me, but all in all, I would say it was a good year. I cannot wait to see what this coming year holds for me. I won't say that I have any particular New Year's Resolutions, I don't necessarily agree with all the hype of these Resolutions. Lets face it New Year's Resolutions usually always go to the way side before January is even over, and most won't be remembered in six months. However, I do believe in goals. I do have plenty of goals, some that are even being carried over from the year 2008.

My New Year's Eve was excellent! I think that even Gandalf would have been proud of my dad for his job with the fireworks this year. (I'm pretty sure they weren't even legal in Utah....not in residential areas anyway.) Ha ha. Thanks so much Leslee & LeGrand for waffles, and thanks Dad for the fireworks!

Catch Up - Christmas Eve Party

For those that can make it, going to my Grandma's house for Christmas Eve is traditon. We start the night with appetizers such as cheese-balls and Bloody Maries, Shortly after we have a huge dinner followed by games. Later, ensuing the games, we exchange gifts. My Grandma always gives all 15 grandchildren pajamas, this year's model included a hat!

(Every year for....I really cannot remember when it started.... we have borrowed the Woolstenhulme's Aunt Carol's hideous Christmas sweaters, this year however we felt inclined to make our own! It was so much fun! Perhaps this will be the new tradition???)

Catch Up- Gingerbread House Fest 08!

Every year family and friends that either live here or are visiting assemble to the Woolstenhulmes for our annual Gingerbread house making fest. Although we had a few less people than last year the spirit of the event was just as lively. Deplorably enough, Ben and I had the "Hurricane Catrina" house this year ha ha. Danielle's house caved but she actually turned it into something freaking awesome! She made her demolished house a "twister victim" using an ice-cream cone for the tornado and marshmallows for the clouds at the top. She also placed a yellow ribbon around it for "caution tape." It was as stated earlier "awesome." Other houses I thought were pretty creative this year included:...surprise, Colby and Malea's, who made a camper complete with an outhouse, red necks sitting by a fire, and raccoons in the garbage. And Heather and Chris's who made a McDonald's with the hamburglar and other such characters. This year rocked, and I am stoked for next year because I have the greatest idea!

(I always, without fail, eat the pieces of my gingerbread house! Every year! I can't help it, and the worst part is that it doesn't even taste good!)

Catch Up - Becky and John's Wedding!

In December my cousin, more so a sister, Becky was married. It was another beautiful wedding thrown by my Aunt Lesli, who can make any wedding appear like a million dollar wedding. I honestly don't know how she does it, but she does every time! Everything turned out so pretty, and I was so happy to have all of my family, minus a few, come up to Utah. It is always a party when my family gets together. I was also so happy to see all the youngsters come together too, I still think it is funny that instead of having all girls, our new members are all boys that are close in age!

----
My Grandmother and all of the great grand children except the newly born Penny, and the two girls and one boy that are on the way.

Catch Up - 80's Night!!!!!

Oh if only every night could be 80's night, and if only Heather would wear her bangs like that every night! Ha ha!
