Dior and Pretty Have Always Gone Hand in Hand.

I discovered this video a little while ago and am just now getting around to doing a post on it. Sofia Coppola and Christian Dior partnered up to direct an add for the latest Miss Dior Cherie fragrance. To say the least...I love it!!!! I hope to see Dior (and possibly other designers) work more with Sophia! I feel that she brought a youthful, fun, fresh perspective into an iconic brand. Well done!

P.S. Warning, the song from this video will get stuck in your head!

Shifty

The other day, for one reason or another, my family and I were discussing dogs and cats. You know the usual why one prefers dogs or why one prefers cats scenario. While getting pretty into this discussion my cousin Danielle blurts out that she likes cats because they are "shifty." I started laughing so hard at this and then I realized that that is kind of why I like them too ;).

(I really should change my blog title from "Pink Bangles" to "Random Ramblings" ha ha, lets face it almost everything I post is pretty random. I think what I wrote in this post takes the cake though.)

Epiphany

A fatal flaw I have always had is that when I try things I expect myself to be perfect my first time. And when I inevitably am not I become frustrated; I reprehend myself and beat myself down. (Oddly, I am not like this with others, in fact, I am sometimes over patient with others.) I have been like this with almost everything I have started; basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, art (there are many things under this category, but I will just fit them under the term "art"), guitar, piano, viola, and as I realized today life in general.

I was thinking about all the things I have said or done in the past that were just flat out stupid, or were less than I expected from myself. I began to really crash down on myself as usual when I realized that the whole of life is a learning process. No one gets it perfect from the start. My opinions, knowledge, and actions are subject to change and grow as I do. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Get Off Michelle's Back!

(Sorry this topic is a couple of days old I know, when I wrote it it was current, I have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to post things. However, seeing as I am still pretty fired up about this I am choosing to post it regardless.)

There is always something that people are whining about isn't there? Michelle Obama has been greatly criticized for not including African-American designers in her inaugural wardrobe by the BAA. (Even though she has already displayed many different and often overlooked American talents...I guess it doesn't count?....) Maybe this is fashion blasphemy for me to say, but should what the First Lady wears really be such a political obligation? Fashion is an extension of our personalities; it is a way of expression, why should she be forced to wear what she may not like simply because the designers are African Americans? As designer B. Michael said, fashion is subjective and a matter of personal choice.

It really does seem silly that many are making such a big deal out of this. Do you see Barack's suites making headlines?! No! Because we are more concerned with how he can help our country. Why should this be any different for Michelle? I for one do not want someone in her position just to be a "wall flower." She is a woman who has received a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law, served as the Assistant to the Mayor in Chicago, and as an Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies. Before I would ever have the nerve to ask her to change her style to something I felt was better, I would ask that she offer something great to this country. I would ask that she be the Eleanore Roosevelt of our day, it's obvious we need one!

In all honesty I am getting sick of the color thing. The inauguration was a historic moment that was cherished by nearly everyone regardless of color or politics. The Black Artist Association (BAA) needs to find something more justifiable to complain about. Isabel Toledo and Jason Wu (two of the lucky designers who designed Michelle's inaugural attire) are also minorities hoping to give their careers and passions wings. Should Cuban and Asian designers be less favored to African American ones? Really, isn't making a point to select a designer based on skin color, black or not, considered discrimination?! Our political correctness has become a double standard, and it is both tragic and frustrating.

Cravings and Clorox Bleach?! I Never Thought I Would Pair Those Two Together...

Today at work I was cleaning something with Clorox. When I opened the bottle all of the sudden I was blasted by the scent of chlorine which reminded me of summer, swimming, and my original home. When I stepped outside to go to my house and almost fell on my butt as a result from slipping on ice, immediately, I realized how badly I wanted skies the vibrant color of Tiffany blue, sunshine that is so intense you can feel it pressing up against your skin, pavement that keeps you on your toes and in fast motion, a perfect tempeture swimming pool, flip-flops, and the whole load. So thank you Clorox...I was fine with the dreariness of Feburary until you so kindly reminded me of what I am missing out on....

Trying New Things

(Sorry, it was brought to my attention that I messed up, apparently there are "two" Wendy Whites...and stupidly I combined the works of both thinking they belonged to the same artist. ...............................................................Woops......my apologies to both Wendys. I've fixed it, the Wendy I'm looking into does more of an "urban decay" look (which I love!), her website is: www.wendywhite.net. Sorry about that!)

Usually I work with realism in art. I am not quite sure why this is, perhaps it is because almost all of my assignments in my art classes have been derived from realism and realism principles till now. It could also be that I have always felt that one needs to know the rules and understand them before they break them.

For my oil painting class Alan (Definetly one of my more fun professors!) is having us choose two abstract artists to study and complete paintings using their styles. I am really excited because though, I have dipped my feet in abstractism I have never full on dived into it before. The two artists I chose from the list he gave us are Elizabeth Peyton, and Wendy White. I can't wait to get started!
