My Favorite "Lullaband" (Name Courtesy of Kurt Beard)

This post is for Scott, Emily, and Ciera some of the coolest people I've met. Thanks for the music guys.

I remember the first time I heard Book on Tape Worm perform almost a year ago. When Scott, with his ambient vocals, began to sing I was swept away. The words and melodies reflected all of my darkest secrets; my insecurities, pains, regrets, and hopes. I know that the music is his personal story, yet I cannot help but feel when I listen to their band that no one knows me better than Scott Shepard.

Finally (after much arm twisting) the band has announced that they’re recording an album! To fund the project they have started a Kickstarter page. After one performance on Saturday they have almost raised half the money needed! Woo-hoo!

Together, Scott, Ciera, and Emily make a good team. Their stage set is always really neat too. Look into this band if you have a moment.  If you like what you hear become a fan on Facebook or look at their website: bookontapeworm.com. To raise awareness for their new album, this month is "blog about Book on Tape Worm month" (as if I needed a reason to write about them) so to further contribute I will post more videos of the group on this blog. Here are two for now, enjoy :).

The song in this last video, "Corners", is one of my favorites. It is beautiful.

"I'm not photogenic, but I'll take your pictures love, You'll see I'll be the finger in the corner of your favorite memories."

"Growing old is the slowest form of time travel."

Right now if I could hang out with anyone it would be...

Karen O. Thats right the Yeah Yeah Yeah's crazy vocalist. Here are some of the few reason's why I really would like to befriend Karen.

  • She is one of the few artists that is truly original.

  • Like her or not she is who she is, and she isn't afraid to show it. I really admire that.

  • She has so much energy. (need proof? Watch her performances...)

  • She puts her whole heart into things.

  • She has her own sense of fashion (oh where to begin with her fashion), many things she actually made fashionable.

  • Of course she has a stellar voice.

  • She is so interesting I would love to talk with her, hear her views and outlooks on life.

  • And lastly she is a fellow lover of twirling. In her own words:
"I used to twirl around all the time when I was three. I’m still always twirling on stage. I’m just a grown-up kid — the sandpit is where I want to be the whole time. I have the right career for it."

These Videos Are...

Interesting! As an artist I am always excited when I stumble upon something really creative. These music videos made me smile so I thought that I would post them. I hope you enjoy them! :)

The first is called "Soon We'll be Found" by Sia. It really gets interesting toward the end I love it!

Thank You For the Music

Have you ever had a song play that fits your mood so well that it almost seems eerie? This happened to me today, I put my ipod on shuffle and Bob Dylan's song "My Back Pages" began to play. Lipping the words while I finished something in the kitchen, I felt my heart relate with each rattled word he sang out.

Outdoor Concert+ Lots of Rain+ Mud+Plus Super Long Line+Questionable Scents= Great Fun

(P.S. I will try and add pictures of the concert either tomorrow night or Tuesday)

Alright, well the rain, the mud, the line, and the fact that I smelled something a little more than alcohol and cigarette smoke weren't that great....sucked actually. But none of that mattered to me tonight, because I got to see one of my greatest idols, and truest love preform live. Bob Dylan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would battle it all again for him.

In June my dad bought my family tickets to go see him. I won't even try to explain how happy I was when I found out. Words would be utterly pointless. He is one of my all-time heroes. (I will admit it took me awhile to get used to his voice, but his lyrics are so incredibly powerful! He wasn't afraid to write crap about the government or politicians, or even the faults of society. He changed and inspired many, many people, my country and I am sure many other countries with his songs. )

I am so happy I can now say I have gone to a Bob Dylan concert in my life time...he isn't going to be preforming much longer, and I got to see him! One of the most influential musicians and poets and I got to see him! And I must say he looked pretty sweet in his Cuban straw hat and black pin striped suit!

Here are some of my favorite Dylan songs:

Blowin' in the Wind
The Times They Are a Changin'
Like a Rolling Stone
When the Ships Come Sailing In
Positively Fourth Street
Just Like a Woman
Its All Over Now Baby Blue
Dark Eyes
Only a Pawn in Their Game
Desolation Row
Stuck Inside Of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again - *He played this one!!!!*

Lyric Day???

I am not sure why but today I feel like posting lyrics lol. Anyway here is one of my all time favorites from the Hobbit.
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains of the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.

Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk

If you be my star
I'll be your sky
you can hide underneath me and come out at night
when I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

but you can skyrocket away from me
and never come back if you find another galaxy
far from here with more room to fly
just leave me your stardust to remember you by

if you be my boat
I'll be your sea
a depth of pure blue just to probe curiosity
ebbing and flowing and pushed by a breeze
I live to make you free
I live to make you free

but you can set sail to the west if you want to
and past the horizon till I can't even see you
far from here where the beaches are wide
just leave me your wake to remember you by

if you be my star
I'll be your sky
you can hide underneath me and come out at night
when I turn jet black and you show off your light
I live to let you shine
I live to let you shine

but you can skyrocket away from me
and never come back if you find another galaxy
far from here with more room to fly
just leave me your stardust to remember you by
stardust to remember you by

Little Mermaid on Broadway

Saturday morning while I watched Janice, Ian, Kate, and Emma I brought over the Little Mermaid Broadway soundtrack and the picture book I bought from the musical in New York. Two of the girls are starting dance class so I thought it would be fun for them to dance to. Ian however loved dancing to it as well. Anyway it was a hit, they loved it. And it reminded me I never did a post about the musical, though I wanted too.

As many of my friends and family know The Little Mermaid is one of my all time favorite Disney movies! She and I were even born the same year ;). (Hercules, and Mulan are my favs too). So as one might imagine I was ecstatic when I heard we were going to go see it on Broadway in New York! We were lucky enough to see all of the original cast, many of whom have received Tony Awards. The woman who played Ariel received a Tony Award for her performance in this musical. Everything was incredible...I know this may seem odd, but I thought the Stage set was spectacular! Ursula's dress had to have been at least 25grand to make.

I loved the play and the music, but I will agree with some of the critics who say it was a little theme parkish. However keep in mind this is Disney we are dealing with... And I wish they had added a few more creative touches to the musical. I found that though it truly was wonderful it felt like I was just watching the movie with extended songs. What was the name of the woman who did the Lion King on Broadway? They should have hired someone like her.

Although I do have some criticisms for the most part I loved it! My favorite songs were, Part of Your World, I Want the Good Times Back, and One Step Closer. If you are a Disney fan, and are ever in New York City I would definetly recommend it. I hope when and if I have a daughter that it is still playing on Broadway!
